The New Equipment for AGCT Rijeka
Rijeka, May 20th 2013 – a cargo ship from China, Shanghai berthed at the container terminal in Brajdica, Rijeka, carrying valuable equipment that will allow the port of Rijeka to become one of the most competitive container ports on the Adriatic.
The new 24 million Euro’s worth of equipment includes two Post – Panamax cranes, 6 RTGs (Rubber Tyred Gantry cranes) and 2 RMGs (Rail Mounted Gantry cranes) with which the container terminal Brajdica becomes fully equipped in accordance with all international standards. With the delivery of these cranes the total investment of Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT) in the terminal Brajdica reached 30 million euro since 2011, when ICTSI took over the Management of the company.
Completion of the installation of new equipment is expected in July this year, which will, together with other completed projects (new road entrance/exit gate for trucks directly connected to the highway, new premises for officers of customs, police and freight forwarders and new Border Inspection Point -BIP) will allow Rijeka to become the first port of call for EU in the northern Adriatic, following Croatia’s accession to the European Union.
The new equipment has arrived just as the construction works on the expansion of the quay and yard have been completed.
AGCT Rijeka has thus received an additional 320 m of quay and new storage area which has doubled the capacity of the terminal.
The depth alongside the new quay is in excess of 14 m allowing AGCT to berth the largest vessels sailing the Mediterranean; and with the 2 new Post Panamax Quay cranes, the total capacity of the 628 m quay will be able to handle 750 000 TEU with a storage capacity of over 600 000 TEU in the Container Yard.
This will ensure AGCT Rijeka becomes a valuable addition to Koper and Trieste as the major ports in Adriatic.
